Each year, Ball State University invites high school students to submit journalism pieces for judging in a variety of categories. A total of nine Snider journalism students won sixteen awards for various titles written from April 2018 to February 2019.

The Weekend in Sports
The Boys Track DMR team placed eighth at the indoor state meet. Senior Jesse Hamlin ran a 9:06 3200 and placed first overall in the race, setting a new Snider record.
Burmese Students Learn English Through Soccer
Although each player was challenged to learn English, it was the game of soccer that truly acclimated the boys to the unfamiliar culture. Almost all the refugee players and their families came to the United States for a similar reason – a better education and better future.
Connor Mihavics Earns Sixteenth Place at State Meet
Now that the 2019 Snider dive season is over, Mihavics is “filled with emotion.” One challenge he faced at state, however, was not letting himself think about the end of the season and focus instead on making his community proud.
Speech Competition Results
Speech team members Madi Bushnell, Grace McCormick, Harrison Snyder and Victor Song competed in the IHSFA State Competition on Saturday. Song qualified for quarterfinals in Informative Speaking. Snyder competed in the final round in Impromptu and earned second place.

Snider Track and Field placed third overall at the Purdue Fort Wayne Bulldog Invite.
Wednesday in Sports
Junior Dillon Duff and sophomore Michael Eley received first team all-SAC for boys basketball.
Snider Thanks Custodial Staff
The custodial staff at Snider High School blesses us with a clean environment and helps make every day go smoothly. From putting salt on icy sidewalks to helping students carry projects to keeping restrooms clean, there are many reasons to thank our custodial staff.
DECA Competition Results
DECA students participated in competitions at the SCDC in Indianapolis, multiple competitors placing in finals and receiving recognition.
The Weekend in Sports
Panther Hockey lost to Brebeuf on Friday 3-2. Senior Jason Marquardt and sophomore Austin Reasoner scored the lone goals in the game. Hockey defeated the Munster Mustangs on Saturday morning 7-4. Sophomore Austin Reasoner recorded the first hat trick of the year. Hockey lost in the third period against the Homestead Spartans, giving up 3 goals. The Panthers’ state run ended with the 5-2 lose to the Spartans.
