Snider tied with Concordia for first place in Northeast Indiana’s Tech Fest competition and brought home the 2019 Tech Fest Cup on Friday, November 22nd.
Students from all grade levels traveled to McMillen Park Community Center that morning to compete in the STEM events, which included science, mathematics, engineering, programming, cyber security and web design.
Science Team #1, Emily Meinzen, senior; Theri Nwe, senior; Sariah Ramos, senior; and Kennedy Jester, senior; placed first in competition. They were given four samples of wire and had to identify the alloy or metal and answer challenge questions based on their findings.
The Math Team #2, Dez Clawson, senior; Hayden Tippmann, senior; Jennifer Luu , junior; and Hannah Mekaru, sophomore; placed second in competition. They had to play a Jeopardy-style mathematics game show.
Snider’s Programming Team #1, Caden Kline, senior; Jared Mitchell, senior; Eric Van Zant, sophomore; and Ian Diers, freshman; placed second in competition. They had to design three computer programs to solve a problem for a desired solution.
The event also featured an expo for careers in Indiana in science, technology, engineering, and math, as well as a resume workshop and practice interviews.
