Choosing a Major by Ryan Stachler
My name is Ryan Stachler and I am currently a junior at Snider. Next year I will be a senior graduating in 2020. After high school, I want to major in Food Science. According to the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT), food science is the study of the physical, biological and chemical makeup of food; and the concepts underlying food processing.
There are many career options available to food scientists, ranging from working in a lab to working for the government. I plan to attend Purdue Fort Wayne to receive my general education classes, then transfer over to West Lafayette to obtain my Master’s Degree.
I would like to specialize in food chemistry; which is to quantify, characterize and manipulate the components of foods. After I graduate, I plan to work in a lab setting creating new species of food. This combines my passion for labs in general and my passion for cooking.
